Fathers day 2010 is on June 20th and only one month away now. Most of you might think that a month is plenty of time to buy a fathers day gift for your dad but you’ll soon find that it’s harder than it seems. You can’t just have flowers delivered to your dad like you do to your mom; instead you need to come up with a real gift that your dad will like. The problem with buying gifts for dad is that most people go looking in the wrong place. This isn’t a question of whether you shop at the mall or online, it’s more about what you shop for.
When you buy gifts for your mom, you think about each and everything she could possibly need, how she’d use it and if it really tells her how much you love her. When you buy gifts for dad all you do is try and get him something that won’t immediately or eventually end up in the trash. What very few people will consider is giving their dads a gift that shows how much they appreciate him. Here are a few suggestions that’ll help you along the way to giving better fathers day gifts.
The gift of an acknowledgement
Instead of buying your dad yet another silk tie that he’ll never wear, try telling him how he’s done a great job as a parent. It would be a good idea to apologize for all the things you said when you were having your teenage temper tantrums because even though you may not have meant them, they still hurt your dad’s feelings.
No power tools or gym memberships
You’re dad may have liked to tinker around with the car or work on pet projects when you were a kid but there’s a good chance that he did them with you for the sole purpose of spending some time together. You’re dad may still like to fix things now and then but a power tool isn’t what would likely make a good fathers day gift. Don’t give your dad a gym membership either. It’s better if you visit him and help him fix something around the house or if you live close, you can set a time everyday when you can both go jogging together. You can commit to it on fathers day as a gift and then you need to see it through.
Spoil dad for change
You’ve always focused on getting your mom something indulgent, try giving your dad something fun and unique that he can enjoy. It doesn’t have to be anything big or fancy; you could give him special fathers day gift baskets like a delicious fruit bouquet instead of the old steak dinner which is bound to shoot his cholesterol through the roof. It’s a nice food gift that your dad will love and it’s the simple gift, pretty much like mothers day flowers, only it’s fit to be gifted to your dad. So try fathers day gift baskets this time.
Spend a day with him
What would be best though is if you could spend a whole day with him. It’s highly unlikely that you can visit him every year on his birthday, but fathers day 2010, like all the previous fathers days, is on a weekend so you should really be able to take the time and give your old man a visit.
