Father's Day 100 Years

In 2010, Father's day will be 100 years old. Father's day started in USA by Sonora Louise Smart Dodd. Her father who was a civil war veteran brought her and her siblings up, when their mother died. Sanora was 16 then.

Sanora got the inspiration from mother's day, and started her campaign for father's day. Because of her efforts, the first father's day was celebrated the very next year on Sunday, 19 June 1910. With passage of time, and due to her campaign, father's day started recieving official recognition.

Today, this day is celebrated in more than 50 countries all around the world. This year, Father's day will be celebrated on 20 June, 2010. And it will be hundred years, since the first father's day celebrated by Sanora.

In some other countries, Father's day is celebrated on different dates. For example, Father's day is celebrated in Australia and New Zealand, on the first Sunday in September, and in Scandinavia on the second Sunday in November.
